Getting started

A clear next step, at your family's pace.

There are four stages between first contact and ongoing support. How long each one takes depends on your family, your child's needs, and your coverage.

The pathway

Four stages, and what each one involves

You'll always know what the current stage is and what happens next. If you're unsure at any point, ask us.

  1. Stage 1

    Get in touch

You reach out by email, the consultation form, or by booking a free 15-minute consult online. Tell us as much or as little as you'd like at this point.

    Your part
Share your contact details and a short note about your child.
    Our part
Follow up to arrange a conversation about what you're looking for.
  2. Stage 2

    Discuss needs and coverage

We talk through what's happening in your child's day, which settings might help, and how coverage works for your plan.

    Your part
Describe your priorities and share any relevant documentation you have.
    Our part
Explain the options, answer questions, and look into coverage requirements with you.
  3. Stage 3

    Assessment and an individualized plan

A BCBA completes an assessment to understand your child's strengths and needs, then drafts a plan and reviews it with you.

    Your part
Take part in interviews and say which proposed goals matter most.
    Our part
Assess, write an individualized plan, and explain it in plain language.
  4. Stage 4

    Begin support and review together

Sessions begin in the agreed settings. Progress is reviewed with your family and the plan is adjusted as your child grows.

    Your part
Share what's working at home and raise anything that isn't.
    Our part
Deliver the plan, track progress, and revise goals as things change.

Come prepared

Questions to bring

You don't need to have these answered — they're just useful things to raise when we talk.

  • Service settings

Which settings would suit my child — home, school or daycare, the community, or a combination?

  • Scheduling

How would sessions fit around school, work, and the rest of our week?

  • Coverage

What does my plan require, and what information will you need from me?

  • Goals

How are goals chosen, how will I know if they're working, and how do I ask for a change?
